VIRGINIA, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team defeated Martin Luther College 8-1 Saturday afternoon in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) contest.
Doubles
The No. 1 team of
Sara Wennerstrand (Baxter, Minn. /Brainerd HS (Saint Benedict)) and
Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) out-played their opponents to win 8-3. Sisters
Brynne Hauer (Duluth, Minn. /Duluth East HS) and
Elise Hauer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS), the No. 2 team, played just as hard to come on top with an 8-2 victory. Lastly,
Madilyn Jankila (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and
Syd Holt (Crosslake, Minn. /Pequot Lakes HS) played a perfect match, winning 8-0.
Singles
The Saints played strong matches, succeeding in five of the six singles competitions. In No. 3 and No. 4 positions, Rice and B. Hauer had perfect scores of 6-0, 6-0. Jankila (No. 5) and
Taylor Hays (Altoona, Wis./Altoona HS) (No. 6) follow close behind with 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1, respectively.
E. Hauer won 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot for the final singles victory.
