Women’s Tennis Wins First Conference Matchup of the Season

LAKEVILLE, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team opened Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action with an 8-1 win over North Central University (Minn.) on Friday evening.
 
Doubles
All three teams of Saints won their doubles matchups 8-0. Sara Wennerstrand (Baxter, Minn. /Brainerd HS (Saint Benedict)) and Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) won at the No. 1 spot, Serena Hutson (Meridian, Idaho/Bishop Kelly HS) and Maria Valentini (Hibbing, Minn. /Hibbing HS) won in the No. 2 spot, and Sydney Vyskocil (Ashland, Wis. /Ashland HS) and Julia Ellefson (Rochester, Minn. /John Marshall HS) secured the victory at the No. 3 spot.
 
Singles
Wennerstrand, Rice and Valentini each swept their singles matches 6-0, 6-0. They were at the No. 1, 2, and 4 spots, respectively. Vyskocil won at the No. 5 spot 6-1 and 7-6 (7-3). Ellefson won in straights sets at the No. 6 spot, by scores of 6-2, 6-0.

The Saints (9-4, 1-0 UMAC) return to non-conference play tomorrow for a matchup against the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse at 5 p.m. in Rochester, Minnesota.
