MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team had it first games since Spring Break and played to a split against Augsburg University on Tuesday, falling in game one 5-0 and taking game two by a score of 6-1.
Augsburg 5, CSS 0
The Saints were held to just two hits and three base runners in the game one loss to the Auggies (8-8).
The first game remained scoreless for two innings before the Auggies recorded two runs in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the sixth to win 5-0.
Maggie Schley (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) had both of the team's hits and also picked up the loss in the pitching circle. Sam Anderson struck out 12 Saints to earn the win for the Auggies.
CSS 6, Augsburg 1
The Saints were able to gain the split in game two as
Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS) held Augsburg to only one hit in the 6-1 win.
CSS opened the scoring in the top of the first after
Josie Fourre (Albany, Minn./Albany HS) stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and drove
Hannah Thul (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) in to make it 1-0.
The Auggies were able to tie the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a wild pitch, but they would not get another hit the rest of the game.
CSS wouldn't score again until the fourth inning, when the bases were loaded and a wild pitch and a throwing error allowed
Karissa Ratcliff (North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) and
Kayla Christopherson (Zimmerman, Minn./Zimmerman HS (Itasca CC)) to score.
Cambria Hale (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge HS) scored an unearned run to end the inning and make it 4-1 to CSS.
In the fifth inning, after pinch running for Fourre on second, Hale scored her second run of the night off an RBI by Christopherson. CSS' sixth and final run came at the top of the seventh when Fourre hit a grounder allowing
Kacie Bjerk (Roseau, Minn./Roseau HS) to score.
Howe recorded four strikeouts and faced just four over the minimum to earn the win. Christopherson was 2-for-3 with a RBI to lead the offense. Fouree drove in a pair of runs.

The Saints (8-10) have their first home games of the year this Saturday at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader against UMAC opponent Martin Luther College. The games will be played on the turf of Saints Field.
