Men’s Tennis Drops a Tight Match to Oglethorpe

ORLANDO, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Oglethorpe University (Ga.) late Monday night at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Center.
 
Doubles
The Saints started the dual by winning two of the three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of Serhii Tykhonenko (Kiev, Ukraine/Lyceum #100 "Podil") and Rafa Gonzalez (La Libertad, El Salvador/FESA) won 8-5. The No. 2 duo of Elliot Schneider (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Jake Jolowsky (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) won 8-4 for their third straight win.
 
Singles
The Stormy Petrels (2-2) showed their depth, winning at the bottom three flights. However, Schneider won at the No. 2 spot 6-3, 6-1 for his eighth straight win. Gonzalez won in a third set super-breaker 6-1, 1-6, (10-8) for this sixth straight win. But the Saints fell one match short in a 5-4 defeat.
