ST. PETER, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team earned its first win of the season by edging Saint Mary's University in the afternoon Saturday at the Swanson Tennis Center, before falling to No. 28 Gustavus Adolphus College in the nightcap.

The Saints started with the Cardinals (2-2), who lost earlier in the day to Gustavus.
CSS got off to a good start, taking two of the three doubles matches. The No. 2 team of
Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and
Elizabeth Fink (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century HS) won 8-1. The No. 3 team of
Brynne Hauer (Duluth, Minn. /Duluth East HS) and
Madilyn Jankila (Eveleth, Minn. /Eveleth-Gilbert HS) won for the second straight day by a score of 8-3.
Saint Mary's won singles matches at the top two spots in straight sets and also at the No. 4 spot. B. Hauer would win her match at the No. 5 spot in tight scores of 7-6 (7-3), 7-5. Jankila also won her match at the No. 6 spot 6-0, 7-5.
The dual came down to the No. 3 spot where Rice would defeat her opponent in a third-set super-breaker 7-6 (9-2), 1-6, (12-10).
#28 Gustavus 9, CSS 0
The Saints concluded the day with a rematch of last year's NCAA Division III Tournament first round match. The Gusties (2-0) proved to be too much that day and then again Saturday evening with a 9-0 win.
The tightest match of the nine was Fink at No. 4 singles, who lost by scores of 6-4, 7-5.
