GENEVA, Ill. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team lit the lamp eight times Saturday to complete the series sweep of Aurora University (Ill.) by a final of 8-2.
How it Happened
The first 13 minutes went by scoreless until
Amber Tilander (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) started the scoring barrage with a little over six minutes remaining.
Kennedy Houge (Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) had the assist.
Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) added a power-play goal 68 seconds later to make it 2-0.
Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) and
Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) had the assists. That same combination added another goal before the first intermission to make it 3-0.
CSS added three more goals in the second period with
Sam Gorecki (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic (Chicago Fury)),
Courtney Bloemke (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato West HS) and
Kayla Kasel (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) all scoring.
With the score at 6-0 entering the third period,
Greta Nundahl (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) scored on the power-play and Kasel added her second of the game to make it 8-0. The Spartans (6-14-3, 3-10-3 NCHA) added two goals late to make the final 8-2.
Top Performers
Klaas and Kasel each scored two goals. Anderson and
Kennedy Houge (Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) each had three assists. Anderson now has 26 assists this season, second-most in a season in program history.
Goaltending
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) stopped all 14 shots she faced in 31 minutes of action to earn the win.
Maddy Benson (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield HS) had 11 saves in the final 29 minutes. Chiara Pfosi had 10 saves in 40 minutes to pick up the loss.
