Basketball Teams Welcome Finlandia Wednesday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's and men's basketball teams will have their final non-conference games of the season when they host Finlandia University (Mich.) Wednesday.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints snapped a four-game losing skid with a 14-point victory at the Martin Luther College on Saturday.
-Alison Huber (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS (Hibbing CC)) scored a season-high 20 points in the victory, tying a program record with six 3-pointers.
-Michala Walther (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) and Danielle Cieluch (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) each recorded double-doubles.
-The last time two Saints recorded double-doubles in the same game was February of 2012.
-For Walther, she recorded a career-high 13 rebounds.
-Walther also jumped Head Coach Stacy Deadrick for 10th on the program career scoring list.
-Cieluch recorded six block shots on Saturday, giving her 52 for the season, which leads the conference.
-She needs just four more blocks to set the single-season program record currently held by Allison Sanderberg.
-Her next block will be her 100th of her career becoming the sixth Saint to reach that feat.
-Cieluch needs 13 points and 29 rebounds to reach 500 in both of those categories for a career.
-Kaylee Kennedy (Littlefork, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS) leads the team averaging 14.0 points per game.
 
What You Need to Know about Finlandia:
Overall Record: 5-16
-All five of the Lions victories occurred in January, including a win over the Saints.
-The Lions are only 1-7 away from Hancock this season and that one win was an overtime victory over Kalamazoo College (Mich.) on January 23.
-Mariah Austin was added over the Holidays and has been a great addition to the Lions, leading the team in scoring at 12.9 points per game.
-Katie Lundeen averages 12.0 points per game.
-Lundeen has made 79 free throws this season, which ranks in the top 100 in NCAA Division III.
 
Series Record: CSS leads 29-12 (Last Meeting: 61-57 Finlandia – 1/9/2019)
 
Series History: The Lions defeated the Saints on January 9 in Hancock by four points … CSS is 18-3 all-time against Finlandia in Duluth, having won the last seven meetings at the Reif.

-The Saints will enter Wednesday on a season-high four-game winning streak.
-CSS is coming off an 18-point win at Martin Luther on Saturday.
-Jarod Wilken (Annandale, Minn./Annandale HS) led the Saints by scoring 21 points for the third time in the last four games.
-Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) had an impressive two games last week, going 12-for-14 from the floor and averaging 17.5 points per game.
-Newman is making 55 percent of his field goal attempts for the season, which leads the conference.
-He also leads the UMAC with 111 made free throws.
-Newman needs 25 points to become the fourth player in program history to reach 1,500 career points.
-Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) leads the league with a .429 3-point field goal percentage and second among league players with 67 made 3-pointers.
-The Saints have shot above 50 percent from the floor the last two games. CSS has not gone a three-game stretch since the 2016-17 season.
-CSS has made at least 10, 3-point field goals in four straight games.

-The Lions are still in search of their first victory of the season.
-They are losing games by an average of 25.3 points per game.
-Dylan Underwood leads the team in scoring at 13.2 points per game.
-Underwood ranks ninth in NCAA Division III making 91 percent of his free throw attempts.
-Austin Carlson averages nearly a double-double with 11.7 points and 9.9 rebounds per game.
