ISHPEMING, Mich. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's ski team had five skiers place in the top 20 in Sunday's 5km individual start freestyle race of the Northern Michigan University Qualifier at the Al Quaal Recreation Area.
Top Performers
Junior
Nicole Gilman (Manitowish Waters, Wis./Lakeland Union HS) led the charge for the first time during the CCSA portion of the schedule and the fifth time this season, placing ninth with a time of 15:06. That is her fourth top-10 finish this season.
Sophomore
Samantha Benzing (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS) recorded the next best time for the Saints, placing 13
th at 15:32. Benzing has scored in all four CCSA races the last two weekends. Senior
Greta Jenkins (Palmer, Alaska/Colony HS) was the final CSS skier to score in 15
th with a time of 15:37. That marked the first time this season Jenkins scored for the team.
Sophomores
Hanna Dahlberg (Ulricehamn, Sweden/Tingsholms School) and
Cecelia Boyle (Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) placed 18
th and 20
th, respectively.
Team Finishes
Northern Michigan had the top four skiers in the field to win as a team for the second straight day. Nicole Schneider captured individual race crown with a time of 13:45. Michigan Tech University was second with 79 points and the Saints third with 69 points.
Up Next
The Saints will have a weekend off before the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) Championships, which will take place on February 16 and 17 at the Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis.
