Women’s Skiing Places 4th on First Day of Region Championships

HOUGHTON, Mich. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's ski team placed fourth on Saturday in the 5km freestyle individual start at the NCAA Central Region Championships.
 
Top Performers
For the first time this season, senior Greta Jenkins (Palmer, Alaska/Colony HS) led the team with a 14th place finish in a time of 17:54.7. The next-best CSS time was by sophomore Samantha Benzing (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS) who was 15th, posting a time of 18:06.7. Junior Nicole Gilman (Manitowish Waters, Wis./Lakeland Union HS) was the final Saint to score in 17th with a time of 18:16.1.
 
Benzing is the only Saint to score for the team in every race, while Jenkins and Gilman have scored in each of the last four races.
 
Team Scores
Northern Michigan University took the team title for the day with 104 points. Abigail Jarzin won the event with a time of 15:28.9.
 
Michigan Tech University was second with 90 points and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay was third with 70 points. The Saints finished with 62 points, which is a season-low.
 
Up Next
The Central Region Championships conclude on Sunday with the with the 15km classic race beginning at 9 a.m. (ET).
