Benzing Leads Women’s Skiers on Day One of CCSA Championships

MINNEAPOLIS (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's ski team placed third in the 15km classic mass start on Saturday on the first day of the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) Championships at the Mayor's Challenge at Wirth Park.
 
Top Performers
Sophomore Samantha Benzing (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS) led the Saints with a 28th place finish in a time of 58:12. She was 11th among league skiers in the field. Right behind her was junior Nicole Gilman (Manitowish Waters, Wis./Lakeland Union HS), 29th overall and 12th in the CCSA, with a time of 58:33.2. Gilman just edged out senior Greta Jenkins (Palmer, Alaska/Colony HS), who was the final Saint to score in 31st place (13th in the CCSA) with a time of 58:33.6.
 
Freshman Rana Kraftson (Bayport, Minn./Stillwater HS) and sophomore Hanna Dahlberg (Ulricehamn, Sweden/Tingsholms School) also posted top-20 CCSA finishes on the day.
 
Team Scores
Northern Michigan University took three of the top four CCSA spots to win the day with 105 points. Abigail Jarzin was the top CCSA finisher with a time of 51:17. Michigan Tech University was second with 73 points and the Saints third with 70 points.
 
Up Next
The CCSA Championships conclude on Sunday with the 5km freestyle race beginning at 8:30 a.m.
