Anderson’s Goal Lifts Women’s Hockey Past Foresters

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The College of St. Scholastica women's hockey team used a Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) third period goal to defeat Lake Forest College (Ill.) 1-0 at Mars Lakeview Arena on Friday evening.
 
The Scoring
The teams were evenly matched in the first period, both putting six shots on the other's goal. The Saints had a power play opportunity with 3:31 left in the period, but the Foresters only allowed one shot on goal.
 
Both teams had two power play opportunities in the second period, but it was the Foresters who had the majority of the opportunities, outshooting CSS 20-8. But the score heading into the third period remained at 0-0, after Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) made 20 saves.
 
The Saints found their goal with 6:48 left to go in the game. Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) pushed the puck past the goaltender for her 10th goal of the season to make it 1-0. Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) had the assist. CSS went on the power play with 2:17 left on the clock and was able to drain most of the clock down, but Foresters did have a few golden opportunities in the final minute, but were denied by Thomeczek to preserve the 1-0 victory. Shots on goal at the end of the period finished 11-11.

Thomeczek's 37 saves marks her fifth shutout of the season, breaking the single-season program record.
 
Top Performers for the Opponent
Jacque Rogers stopped 24 of the 25 shots she faced in goal for the Foresters. Jordan Trapp led in shots on goal with nine.

The Saints (17-6-1, 14-3-0 NCHA) wrap up their regular season tomorrow against the Foresters (14-5-5, 11-2-4 NCHA) at Mars Lakeview Arena with puck-drop set for 4 p.m. It will be Senior Day for the Saints.
