DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team welcomed North Central University (Minn.) to Duluth for the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opener on Wednesday night and fell 79-62.
How It Happened
Kaylee Kennedy (Littlefork, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS) would get the Saints on the board with the first four points. The Saints would get an 8-3 lead after
Karli Skog (Crosslake, Minn./Pequot Lakes HS (Jamestown)) would make a layup and Kennedy would follow with another layup herself. Skog would make another layup to increase the lead to 10-5. North Central responded with three 3-pointers and tied the game at 14-14. The Rams (3-3, 1-0 UMAC) took the lead and held it the remainder of the quarter and finish out the first quarter 21-16.
The Saints would come out of the quarter break and only be able to score 10 points. North Central forced nine Saints turnovers and would turn those into 10 points. The Saints would only be able to shoot 21 percent for the quarter being led by Skog with eight of the 10 points for St. Scholastica.
St. Scholastica would come out with a quick 6-2 run after halftime to bring the North Central lead to 40-32. Points would be traded back and forth for a majority of the quarter with North Central having a three-point gain on the quarter compared to the Saints leading 63-48 going into the fourth quarter.
The Saints would struggle shooting once again in the fourth quarter and would have five more turnovers in the quarter. Six Saints would score in the fourth quarter, but would fall 79-62.
Top Performers
Kennedy led the way for the Saints with 20 points on the night. Skog and
Alison Huber (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS (Hibbing CC)) would add 16 and 10 points respectively for St. Scholastica. A. Huber led the Saints in the rebounding department bringing down a career-high nine rebounds in the loss.
