Women’s Skiing Opens Season in Duluth

RESULTS

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's nordic ski team had its first competition of the year on Saturday with its first-ever race at the new Grand Avenue Nordic Ski Center at the base of Spirit Mountain in Duluth.
 
Top Performances
Saturday's race would be a 7.5km freestyle mass start and the skiers would loop around the 2.5km course three times.
 
CSS was led by first-year skier Emma Stertz (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids HS), who finished in sixth place overall with a time of 22:25. Junior Samantha Benzing (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS) edged another first-year skier in Maja Petersson (Solleftea, Sweden/Solleftea Gymnasium) for 13th place with a time of 22:44. Petersson's time was 22:45.
 
More first-year skiers Mae Barnes (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) was 16th with a time of 22:54 and Leah Dutkewych (Jefferson, N.H./White Mountains HS) was 19th, posting a time of 23:07.
 
Sophomore Rana Kraftson (Bayport, Minn./Stillwater HS) finished 28th and freshman Gwinna Remillard (Vassalboro, Maine/Waterville HS) 29th to round out Saints in the top 30.
 
Up Next
Sunday's event will be the 1.4km classic sprint races with qualifying scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
