How It Happened
The heated rivalry between the Saints and Yellowjackets would start out slow with neither team creating strong offensive opportunities. The 0-0 tie would be broken in the 21
st minute on a UWS goal. Another lull in the game would be broken in the 39
th minute when
Armin Bobaric (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) found
Malcolm Lumsden (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College (Lake Superior College)) and he would strike the ball over the outstretched arms of the UWS goalie to tie the game up at 1-1 with less than seven minutes remaining in the half. The score would stick at 1-1 going into halftime.
The second half would become an offensive explosion for both teams. In the 58
th minute St. Scholastica would misplay a ball in front of their net and would unfortunately have a goal scored for Superior to put the Yellowjackets up 2-1. The Saints would take very little time to find the equalizer when 38 seconds later
Finigan Huffington (Georgetown, Cayman Islands/John Gray HS) connected with
Ken Pryde (Fareham, England/Barton Peveril College) for the goal to tie the game back up at 2-2. UWS answered in the 62
nd minute to regain the lead at 3-2.
The Yellowjackets were able to get another goal on the board in the 77
th minute to increase their lead to 4-2. The Saints would be unable to come through with any additional offensive opportunities falling in the UMAC Title game for the second consecutive year, 4-2.
