MORRIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica football team jumped out to a 34-0 halftime lead to defeat the University of Minnesota Morris 47-29 on Saturday in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action.

How It Happened
St. Scholastica would come out of the gates with a solid first drive going 73 yards in nine plays capped off by a 17-yard touchdown pass from Zach Edwards (St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) to Eddie Lee (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS) to put the Saints up 6-0, with the PAT being blocked by Morris.

Cal Germain (Osceola, Wis./Osceola HS) would get a strip sack on the Cougars' (1-8, 1-6 UMAC) first possession, which would be recovered by Eric Soderberg (Cohasset, Minn./Grand Rapids HS). The Saints once again capitalized with a quick 36 yard passing touchdown from Edwards to Reese Jansen (Eden Valley, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins HS). The PAT by Jacob Carter (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) was good putting the Saints up 13-0 with a little under nine minutes remaining in the first quarter.

The second quarter would start off with a 13-play, 73-yard drive by the Saints and Mitchell Adrian (Altoona, Wis./Altoona HS) rushing in for a four-yard touchdown to put the Saints up 20-0. A little over two minutes later Andy Lakmann (Sartell, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) would force a fumble on the St. Scholastica 25-yard line. Soderberg would scoop up the ball and scamper 75 yards for the touchdown to put the Saints up 27-0 early in the second quarter. St. Scholastica would finish off the half with a four play, 70-yard drive capped off by Edwards passing for his third touchdown pass of the game to Lavell Jackson (Dallas, Texas/Bryan Adams HS (Fond du Lac Tribal & CC)) to increase the lead to 33-0.

The Cougars would take the second half kickoff and capitalize to get their first points of the day to trim their deficit to 34-7. Two CSS drives later, Morris would return an interception 12 yards for a touchdown to make it 34-14. Edwards would come back with a solid drive capping off a seven-play, 42-yard drive with a pass to Adrian for a touchdown. The Saints would go up 40-14 with just under four minutes remaining in the third quarter. Morris quickly responded with a touchdown to bring the score to 40-21 at the end of the third quarter.

A 15-yard touchdown run by Dominic Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) made it 47-21 lead with just over nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. Later in the quarter, Edwards would be sacked in the back of the St. Scholastica end zone for a safety, giving Morris two points to put the score at 47-23 with six minutes remaining. The Cougars added a passing touchdown to make the final 47-29.
