DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica football team committed four turnovers and were held without points twice inside the MacMurray College (Ill.) 10-yard-line in a 35-20 loss on Saturday at Public Schools Stadium to close the regular season for both teams.

How It Happened
The Saints got the ball first and quickly put seven points on the board as Zach Edwards (St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) connected with Mitchell Adrian (Altoona, Wis./Altoona HS) on a swing pass, which he proceeded to take 55 yards for a touchdown to make it 7-0. The Highlanders (5-5, 5-3 UMAC) responded on the ensuing possession with a 58-yard touchdown pass to tie the contest at 7-7 just four minutes into the game.

After a Saints punt, Kenny Moore (Columbia Heights, Minn./Columbia Heights HS) picked off a MacMurray pass to give the Saints the ball in Highlander territory. However, four plays later, the Highlanders recorded an interception inside the CSS 10-yard-line.

Entering the second quarter with the game still tied at 7-7, CSS drove inside the MacMurray 10-yard-line, but once again the Highlanders came up with an interception and returned it out to the 30-yard-line. MacMurray quickly marched down the field, going 70 yards in five plays and scored on a 3-yard rushing touchdown to make it 14-7.

The Saints again drove down the field on their next drive, but would be held on downs inside the MacMurray 5-yard-line. With less than a minute to go in the first half, the Highlanders made it a two-score game with a 13-yard touchdown pass as the score stood at 21-7 at halftime.

MacMurray got the ball to open the second half and the CSS defense put together a stop and forced a three-and-out. The Saints then went 73 yards on 16 plays capped off on an Edwards quarterback sneak to make it 21-14.

After another three-and-out, the Saints went 90 yards on 13 plays with Bryceton Butkiewicz (Kettle River, Minn./Moose Lake HS) finishing it off with a 3-yard touchdown run. However, the point-after would miss to the left and MacMurray held a 21-20 at the end of the third quarter.

As the third quarter belonged the Saints, the fourth quarter would belong to the Highlanders. MacMurray went 68 yards on seven plays to open the fourth quarter and extended its lead to 28-20. After CSS went three-and-out on its next possession, the Highlanders struck for a 32-yard touchdown reception to open up its lead to 35-20 with 10 minutes remaining.

The Saints, looking to answer, matriculated the ball down the field, but MacMurray ultimately sealed the game with an interception in the end zone as the Highlanders defeated the Saints for the third consecutive year by a final of 35-20.
