csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball opened its season Friday night at home against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, but would manage only 11 points in the first half in a 71-33 loss to the Blugolds at the Reif Gymnasium.
How It Happened
Eau Claire would come out of the opening tip with eight straight points in the first five minutes before a St. Scholastica timeout would end their run. A two-minute offensive halt would be broken with a floater in the lane by
Kaylee Kennedy (Littlefork, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS) to get the Saints their first points at 8-2. St. Scholastica would fail to score the remainder of the quarter trailing 13-2 at the end of quarter one.
St. Scholastica would continue their offensive woes for the first few minutes of the second quarter before
Karli Skog (Crosslake, Minn./Pequot Lakes HS (Jamestown)) would hit a three to slim the large deficit to 18-5. The Saints would manage four more points the rest of the half with the Blugolds continuing their dominance in the paint. St. Scholastica would go into the half with a sizeable deficit with Eau Claire leading 32-9.
After half the Saints would come out with more offensive fire power with Skog and Kennedy combining for 28 of the 33 points. St. Scholastica would fall 71-33 to the visiting Blugolds.
Top Performers
Skog and Kennedy contributed 16 and 12 points respectively for the Saints. The leading rebounders were
Emma Schmidt (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS), Kennedy, and Skog all with three rebounds apiece.
