Men’s Hockey Hosts Concordia Wisconsin in NCHA Opener this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team will host its first home series of the 2019-20 season when the Falcons of Concordia University Wisconsin comes to town to open Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints were swept last weekend by No. 7 ranked Augsburg University in the home-and-home series.
-The Saints were voted to finish seventh in the NCHA preseason coaches' poll this year, coming in third in the North Division.
-Zane Steeves (Red Deer, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (100 Mile Wranglers-KIJHL)) got the first two starts of the season in net for the Saints. Stopping 46 of the 51 shots he faced, good for a .902 save percentage and a 2.58 GAA to start the season.
-Nate Pionk (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS (Minot-NAHL)) scored the lone goal for the weekend and was the only Saint to register a point.
-Freshman Tyler Hinterser (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville HS (Brookings-NAHL)) led the Saints with eight shots in the series, fellow freshman Isaac Kobienia (Wilmar, Minn./Willmar HS (Minnesota Wilderness-NAHL)) finished the weekend with five shots of his own, second on the team.
-CSS was 0-for-8 on the man-advantage for the first weekend. They were 7-for-8 on the penalty kill, which is above their kill rate of 78.3 percentage in 2018-19.
-The Saints average 26.5 shots per game.
 
What You Need to Know about Concordia Wisconsin:
Record: 1-1-0, 0-0-0 NCHA
-Concordia was voted to finish eighth in the NCHA preseason coaches' poll standing and fifth in the south division.
-The Falcons opened the season with a 3-0 win over Concordia College-Moorhead on Friday, but followed that up with an 8-3 loss to the University of St. Thomas.
-Junior defenseman Braydon Barker leads the team with four points (G, 3A)
-Junior Nick Guerra leads the Falcons with two goals.
-Sophomore Bo Didur has played the majority of the minutes for CUW. He got the shutout against Concordia-Moorhead and came in relief for junior Dakota Delbridge during the St. Thomas game. Didur has a 3.31 GAA paired with a .900 save percentage.
-The Falcons are 1-for-12 on the power play so far this season and 12-for-13 on the penalty kill.
-CUW led the conference in penalty minutes the first weekend with 55 in the two games.

Series History: The Saints started out the series 4-0-2 against the Falcons, but since its been a close rivalry with a 4-4-0 record for both sides in the last eight contests. The Saints are 7-1 all-time against the Falcons at home.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints will have their first road series of the campaign, taking on Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) next weekend.
