Volleyball to Travel to Morris Wednesday for UMAC Semifinal

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team will be in search of its first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament semifinal win since the 2012 season when it goes on the road to face the No. 2 seed University of Minnesota Morris on Wednesday.

What You Need To Know About The Saints:
-The Saints were part of the first regular season tri-champion in UMAC history finishing with a 7-1 conference record.
-CSS defeated the eventual No. 1 seed University of Northwestern in five sets, but lost to Morris in three sets; Northwestern then defeated Morris in three sets last Wednesday to capture the No. 1 seed by way of tiebreakers.
-The UMAC regular season championship for the Saints is the sixth in program history and first since 2011.
-CSS finished the regular season with two wins in its final six matches.
-The Saints led the conference with 375 kills and 532 digs in league matches.
-Senior Brooke Schermann (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) led the UMAC with 112.5 points in conference play.
-She was one of two players to average over four points per set.
-First-year defensive specialist Alcia Draper (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) led the conference with 167 digs in the eight UMAC matches.
-Sophomore Haley Rohwer (Norwood Young America, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) finished second in the league with a .366 hitting percentage in UMAC matches
-Senior Espi Austvold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) and first-year Katie Brostrom (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) both finished in the top six in the conference in assists per set.
-CSS has not won a UMAC Tournament match away from Duluth since the 2009 UMAC Tournament Championship.
 
What You Need To Know About Minnesota Morris
Record: 15-11, 7-1 UMAC
-The Cougars had won their first seven league matches and only needed to win one set against Northwestern last Wednesday to clinch the No. 1 seed, but were swept and had to settle for the No. 2 seed.
-Morris is the defending UMAC Tournament champion.
-The Cougars have advanced to the UMAC Tournament championship match each of the last six seasons.
-Morris led the conference with a .274 hitting percentage in league play.
Morgan Miller leads the team as she led the conference with a .432 hitting percentage and tied for the conference lead with 27 blocks in UMAC play.
-Tori Everson averaged 3.09 kills per set in league play.
-Layne Herrmann was one of only two players to average at least 10 assists per set in UMAC play.
-Herrmann ranks 22nd in NCAA Division III in assists per set (10.06).
 
Series Records: CSS leads 24-23 (Last Meeting: 3-0 UMM – 9/28/2019)
 
Series History: Wednesday's contest will be the fifth postseason meeting between the two programs with Morris owning a 3-1 record in the first four meetings. The last three meetings have all been in the UMAC semifinals with the Cougars winning the last two both in Morris. The Cougars swept the Saints in the regular season matchup this season in Morris. Morris has won the last nine meetings overall, including the last seven by way of sweeps.
 
Looking Ahead: The winner will advance to the UMAC Tournament Championship, which will take place Saturday night. The highest remaining seed will host beginning at 7 p.m.
