HANCOCK, Mich. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team shot just 28 percent from the floor in a 78-58 setback at Finlandia University (Mich.) Tuesday night.
How It Happened
The Saints would come out down 8-2 before
Ramsey Moe (Aitkin, Minn./Aitkin HS) would score five straight points for the Saints to bring the score to 10-7 in favor of Finlandia. St. Scholastica would give up seven points to their one point in the next two minutes for fall behind 17-8. The Saints would battle back within four points with
Kaylee Kennedy (Littlefork, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS) scoring seven points in the next two minutes. Finlandia would go on a strong run to finish the quarter going up 27-18.
Finlandia would continue where they left off in the second quarter going on a 7-1 run in the first minute and a half of the second quarter. The Saints would only make two field goals in the second quarter and went into halftime down 48-32.
Finlandia would increase their lead to 21 with just over eight minutes left in the third quarter before
Lizzie Altendorf (Braham, Minn./Braham HS) would get an and-one play to give the Saints some life to start the second half. A slow battle back by the Saints would come by way of two layups by Kennedy and a three pointer by
Amelia Zmuda (Saint Anthony, Minn./Saint Anthony Village HS), but the deficit would still remain in double digits going into the fourth quarter with a score of 66-50.
However, St. Scholastica managed only eight points in the fourth quarter and fell on the road 78-58.
Top Performers
Kennedy led the Saints with 17 points. Moe followed with nine points.
Christina Furey (Lake Charles, La./Homeschooled) and
Eve Turner (Side Lake, Minn./Hibbing HS) hauled in 11 and nine rebounds, respectively.

The Saints (1-5) will open up conference play next Wednesday as they welcome North Central University (Minn.) to Reif Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
