ASHLAND, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team scored less than two minutes into the game and that ultimately was the difference as the Saints defeated their former conference foes in Northland College 4-0 Saturday night.
 
How it Happened
The Saints scored one minute and 12 seconds into the game as Kendall Markovic (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) registered her first collegiate goal to make it 1-0. Mariah Haedrich (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) and Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) had the assists. Northland (2-7-0) out-shot the Saints in the first period 10-8, but CSS held the one-goal lead entering the second.
 
Midway through the second period Courtney Bloemke (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato West HS) doubled the Saints lead to 2-0 with her first goal of the season thanks to assists from Paige Forsman (Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) and Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS).
 
St. Scholastica added a third goal three minutes into the third period as Kassidy Westrom (Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) scored her first collegiate goal, unassisted. The final goal of the night came from Thompson with eight minutes remaining to make the final 4-0. Sam Gorecki (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic (Chicago Fury)) assisted the Thompson goal.
 
Goaltending
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) made 23 saves to earn her first win of the year and pick up her sixth career shutout. Teagan Johnson had 31 saves for the LumberJills.
 
Up Next
The Saints (2-5-0) will take two weeks off from game action and will be back at Mars Lakeview Arena on December 6 and 7 for a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) series against St. Norbert College (Wis.).
