ALL-UMAC RELEASE

ST. PAUL (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica's Alcia Draper (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) was named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Volleyball Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, the league announced on Monday. Head Coach Dana Moore was named the Conference Coach of the Year.

Draper
Draper becomes the program's first UMAC Defensive Player of the Year and its second UMAC Rookie of the Year, joining Paige Hardy (2009).

Draper led the conference, averaging 5.96 digs per set in league play. Her 5.6 digs per set overall ranks third among first-year players nationally in that category. That 5.6 average is the highest by a Saint since the 2007 season.

Draper recorded at least 20 digs in 13 matches with a season-high 39 digs in a four-set win over the University of Wisconsin-Superior and 30 digs in a three-set win over Hamline University.

Moore
Moore is named the UMAC Coach of the Year for the first time since the 2003 season and for the fourth time overall. Moore guided the Saints to a turnaround season after they finished 12-18 and fourth in the conference in 2018 to 16-9 this season with a share of the UMAC regular season title.

Moore won her 400th career match early in the year against UWS and her team led the conference with 375 kills and 532 digs in league play.

First Team All-UMAC
Joining Draper on the All-UMAC First Team was senior outside hitter Brooke Schermann (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS). Schermann earns first team accolades for the second straight season, the first Saint to accomplish that feat since Kortney Morrin in 2014-15.

Schermann led the team in kills for the second straight season at 276. Her 96 kills in UMAC play were the second-most in the conference and her 112.5 points led all players. She was one of two players in the conference to finish averaging at least 4.00 points per set. She had nine double-doubles during the season.

Schermann recorded at least 230 kills in each of her final three seasons and registered at least 32 service aces each of those years.

Second Team All-UMAC/Honorable Mention
First-year outside hitter Jessica Remer (Grand Forks, N.D./Sacred Heart HS) and junior middle blocker Madissen Burns (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) earned Second Team All-UMAC accolades.

Remer finished fourth in the conference with 78 kills and sixth with 84 points in UMAC action. Remer led the team this season with 13 double-doubles.

Burns earns All-UMAC honors for the first time in her career. She had a career-high .227 hitting percentage, while posting career-highs in digs (77) and service aces (11).

Senior setter Espi Austvold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) is also recognized by the UMAC for the first time her career with Honorable Mention laurels. She finished sixth in the conference averaging 5.64 assists/set in conference action.

Austvold had seven double-doubles on the year and became the ninth Saint to record at least 2,000 assists in a career.
