MINNEAPOLIS (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team had a 26-12 shot advantage over the final two periods, but it wasn't enough as No. 7 Augsburg University scored a pair of goals in the final two minutes to put the game away and win 3-0 on Friday.
How it Happened
The Auggies took a 1-0 lead 11 minutes into the game on an Austin Martinsen goal. CSS had three power-play opportunities in the opening period, but came away empty.
Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power-play in the second period as the Saints had a 15-6 shot advantage, but the score remained 1-0 at the second intermission.
There would be no penalties in the third period and the Saints once again had an 11-6 shot advantage. However, Augsburg would score a pair of goals 11 seconds apart in the final two minutes to seal the 3-0 victory.
Goaltending
Zane Steeves (Red Deer, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (100 Mile Wranglers-KIJHL)) made 18 saves for the Saints, while Daniil Gerasimov had 33 saves for the Auggies.
