DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team hosted North Central University (Minn.) for an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season matchup on this beautiful Tuesday evening. The match was played in the Reif Gymnasium with a three-game win streak on the line for the Saints. The Saints were able to play an all-around phenomenal game and defeated the visiting Rams in three sets.

How It Happened
St. Scholastica would come out of warmups by taking seven of the first 10 points of the set. Kills by Brooke Schermann (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) and Haley Rohwer (Norwood Young America, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) would put the Saints up 9-3 early. North Central (9-8, 1-1 UMAC) would bounce, back but a service ace by Alcia Draper (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) would issue a timeout for the Rams with the Saints leading 13-6. North Central would come out of the timeout with a few quick points, but would not be able to make any ground the rest of the set with the set being decided by a score of 25-14 in favor of the Saints.

Once again, the Saints would start out ahead with a quick 9-1 lead on the Rams. St. Scholastica would bring their lead up to nine before North Central would bring the lead back down to five at 13-8. The Saints would go on another strong run only allowing four points the remainder of set. CSS would win the second set with a score of 25-12.

Initially North Central came out strong offensively going head to head with St. Scholastica for the points on the board, but their consistency would fall off once again. After a Rams lead at 3-2, St. Scholastica would go on a run of six straight points with a kill by Ashley Larson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) and two straight service aces by Katie Brostrom (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS). The Saints would continue their offensive attack with a Madissen Burns (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) kill to force a timeout by North Central with the score in favor of St. Scholastica at 16-8. The Saints would continue their dominance by only allowing six points the remainder of the match and coming through with the 25-14 win to earn the match win 3-0.

Top Performers
The Saints would be led offensively by Schermann and Rohwer with nine kills each. Jessica Remer (Grand Forks, N.D./Sacred Heart HS) would follow with eight kills as well. Brostrom and Espi Austvold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) would be the top assisters for the game with 19 and 17 assists respectively. Draper added 11 digs to lead the team.
