ST. PAUL, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team took down the Hamline University Pipers on the road in three tight sets on Friday night.

How it Happened
Set one started out neck and neck, with kills early on from the Saints' Morgan Lohmiller (Pequot Lakes, Minn./Pequot Lakes HS) and Brooke Schermann (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS), both assisted by Espi Austvold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS). CSS then got three straight points on Alcia Draper's (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) serve to give the Saints the early lead and force the Pipers to take a time-out. There were five lead changes in the set before the Saints were able to regain and maintain the lead. CSS trailed 17-16 and then went on a 6-0 run, five of which again on Drapers serve and would be enough to take the set 25-22.

Set two started out with Hamline (11-8) taking a three-point lead, until CSS was able to get on the ball and answer back with a kill by Jessica Remer (Grand Forks, N.D./Sacred Heart HS). The set was a close call as the Saints were able to rally from a four-point deficit and then had key points late to win 25-23.

Set three the Pipers took an early lead with a seven-point spread. The Saints were able to creep back into the game with an ace by Austvold to tie the set at 14-14. It remained a close score for the remainder of the set, with the Saints only earning a one-point lead for the majority of play. The Saints were able to take advantage of the Pipers' miscues as well as kills by Ashley Larson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) and Maddisen Burns to finish out the set 25-22.
