UMAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
ST. PAUL (
csssaints.com) – The College of St. Scholastica had a season-high six athletes named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Players of the Week on Monday.
The Saints swept the cross country and women's soccer awards and nearly swept the volleyball honors for the week.
Senior
Easton Foss (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) is the UMAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week. At Friday's Blugold Invitational, Foss set a new personal-best time of 25:38 to lead the Saints and place 22
nd overall in the 446-runner field. That was the fourth-fastest 8k time in program history.
For the third time this season, junior
Lexi Erickson (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS (St. Catherine)) is the UMAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week. At the Blugold Invitational, Erickson led the Saints with a 33
rd place finish in a personal-best time of 23:24. She was the top UMAC runner in the field, which included five other conference programs. Her time is the 11
th-fastest 6k time in program history.
For the second time this year, sophomore
Morgan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's HS) is the UMAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. In Wednesday's win at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, Friday assisted on the game-winning goal. Then on Saturday, Friday recorded her second hat trick of the season with three goals in a 4-0 triumph at the University of Northwestern (Minn.).
Also for the second time this year, junior goalkeeper
Alexa Gothard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Lake Superior College)) is the UMAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Year. Gothard didn't allow a goal in 168 minutes of action last week. She made eight stops in the team's win over UW-River Falls on Wednesday and followed that with four saves in 78 minutes of action on Saturday at Northwestern.
Senior
Brooke Schermann (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) is the UMAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week. Schermann led the Saints to a pair of conference wins last week, averaging 3.25 kills per set and 2.00 digs per set, while leading the team with 30.5 points. Schermann had 15 kills in the team's come-from-behind win over the University of Northwestern (Minn.) on Tuesday, marking the team's first win over the Eagles since 2011. She followed that with 11 kills against Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday as she extended her streak of at least 10 kills to seven straight matches.
Freshman
Alcia Draper (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) is the UMAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week. Draper averaged 5.38 digs per set in a pair of conference wins last week. In Tuesday's win against Northwestern (Minn.), Draper matched a season-high with 29 digs with 21 of those coming in the final three sets with the Saints down two sets.
