Volleyball Finishes Regular Season as UMAC Tri-Champions

Notables
-Sixth UMAC regular season championship in program history; first since 2011
-Draper becomes the 12th Saint to go over 500 digs in a season

ASHLAND, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team swept Northland College on Wednesday to finish the regular season. Also with the University of Northwestern (Minn.) sweeping the University of Minnesota Morris tonight, that means a three-way tie for the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season title.

How it Happened
On Jessica Remer's (Grand Forks, N.D./Sacred Heart HS) service, the Saints scored the first 10 points of the match against the LumberJills (9-16, 2-6 UMAC). That allowed the Saints to coast to a 25-14 opening set win. Morgan Lohmiller (Pequot Lakes, Minn./Pequot Lakes HS) had four kills in the set.

Northland got the first point of the second set, but the Saints responded with five straight points. CSS then used a pair of 7-1 runs later in the set to take it 25-15.

The LumberJills also earned the first point of the third set, but the Saints scored nine of the next 10 points. St. Scholastica finished the match on a 9-2 run to win 25-12.

Top Performers
Brooke Schermann (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) led the Saints with nine kills. Lohmiller and Tatum Swanson (Carlton, Minn./Wrenshall HS) each added six kills. Espi Austvold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) had 16 assists and Ellie Greenwaldt (Raymond, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian School) added 11 assists. Haley Rohwer (Norwood Young America, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) had six blocks and Alcia Draper (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) had 19 digs.

Up Next
Based on tiebreakers among the tri-champions, the Saints (16-8, 7-1 UMAC) drew the short straw and will be the No. 3 seed. That means CSS will head to Minnesota Morris next Wednesday for a UMAC Tournament semifinal.
