RIVER FALLS, Wis. (
csssaints.com) – A pair of first-year players recorded goals as the St. Scholastica women's soccer team shut out the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 2-0 on Wednesday to retain The Chalice.
How it Happened
Both teams combined to put three shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of the contest and the Saints capitalized on one of those shots as
Brea Archer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) scored her second of the season with an assist from
Morgan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's HS) to make it 1-0 in the 10
th minute.
The Falcons (7-3) had just one shot on goal in the first half, while the Saints had four.
The second period was largely in favor of River Falls, yet they were unable to convert shot attempts into a score.
UWRF outshot CSS 7-1 in the second half, but the Saints made their one attempt count for a goal with
Brooke Harvey (Centerville, Minn./Centennial HS) registering her first collegiate goal in the 82
nd minute with assists from
Sidney Botker (Mankato, Minn./Loyola Catholic School) and goalkeeper
Alexa Gothard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Lake Superior College)).
Gothard also made seven saves in the second period for the Saints to preserve the 2-0 victory.
