DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – In cold rain and blustery conditions, the St. Scholastica men's soccer team dropped a tough game to Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior 1-0 on Wednesday at Saints Field.
How it Happened
In the only matchup of the rivals this regular season, both teams struggled to put a shot on goal in the first half. The Saints had probably their best scoring chance in the sixth minute, but would be off target. Shots on goal in the scoreless first half were 3-1 in favor of UWS.
Unfortunately for the Saints the second half was not as neck in neck as UWS held possession of the ball for the remainder of the match. The Yellowjackets (6-2-2, 2-0-0 UMAC) outshot the Saints 10-1 in the second period, four of which were on goal, while the Saints were held without a shot on target. Superior's Pontus Tavemark ended the game's scoring drought with a heel flick goal off a corner in the 59
th minute of the game.
The Saints had a pair of corner kicks in the final three minutes, but could not get a shot off in the 1-0 defeat.
Corey Bulheller (Middleton, England/Highfields Secondary School (Bacone)) made six saves in the loss for CSS, while Dalton VonKaenel had one save in the shutout.
