Volleyball Welcomes Ranked Opponents to the Reif this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team will bring its six-match win streak back to Reif Gymnasium this weekend as it takes on No. 16 Augsburg University Friday night and No. 12 College of Saint Benedict on Saturday.

What You Need To Know About The Saints:
-CSS is coming off a four-set win over Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior on Wednesday.
-The victory was the first UMAC win over the Yellowjackets in Superior.
-The six-match win streak is the programs longest since the 2011 season.
-CSS is 3-1 against the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) this season with the lone loss coming against St. Olaf College.
-The Saints continue to lead the UMAC, averaging 19.1 digs per set, which also ranks 22nd in NCAA Division III.
-Freshman Alcia Draper (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) now leads the conference at 5.71 digs per set and is one to two players to reach 400 digs this season.
-Draper ranks 27th in the country in digs per set, second-most by a freshman in the country.
-Senior Brooke Schermann (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) ranks second in the league, averaging 7.72 points per set.
-Along with Schermann, first-year outside hitter Jessica Remer (Grand Forks, N.D./Sacred Heart HS) also has 200 kills this season.
 
What You Need To Know About Augsburg
Record: 16-4, 4-2 MIAC
-The Auggies enter Friday night on a three-match win streak.
-Augsburg losses have come against Cal Lutheran, Loras College (Iowa), St. Olaf and St. Ben's.
-The Auggies made the NCAA Tournament last season and fell in the opening round.
-Augsburg was picked to finish fourth in the MIAC, according to the preseason coaches' poll.
-The Auggies rank sixth in NCAA Division III, averaging 2.35 blocks per set.
-Jade Fullerton ranks seventh in the country at 1.23 blocks per set.
-Augsburg leads the MIAC with 1.97 service aces per set and also limiting opponents to a .113 hitting percentage.
-Izzy Barr leads the conference with 45 service aces.
-Kayla Gjerde has a team-best 216 kills.

Series History: The Auggies have won six straight over the Saints … The two teams have only played once in Duluth and that was in 2010, a 3-1 CSS victory and the last Saints win in the series.

Record: 18-3, 5-2 MIAC
-The Bennies are coming off a five-set home win over Hamline University on Wednesday.
-St. Ben's losses this season have come against Trinity (Texas), St. Olaf and Saint Mary's University.
-The Bennies made the NCAA Tournament last season and were eliminated in the regional final.
-Saint Benedict was picked to win the MIAC this season.
-St. Ben's will be led by twin sisters Hunter Weiss and Madison Weiss, who were both All-Americans last season.
-Madison Weiss leads NCAA Division III, averaging 1.62 blocks per set.
-Both Madison and Hunter rank in the top 10 in the country in hitting percentage.
-Hunter leads the team with 277 kills, followed by Madison with 263.
-Setter Katie Koch ranks sixth in the country, averaging 10.76 assists per set.

Series History: The Bennies have won nine straight over the Saints … The last CSS win was in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Division III Tournament in five sets.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints will host a triangular next Saturday for their final regular season home matches. Crown College and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls made the trek for the triangular.
