SUPERIOR, Wis. (csssaints.com) – For the second time this year, the St. Scholastica volleyball team traveled across the bridge to take on rival University of Wisconsin-Superior and came away with a victory. Wednesday night's match was an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) contest with the Saints winning in four sets.

How it Happened
The Saints needed to rally from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Yellowjackets in a marathon five-set match in early September. That matchup was a non-conference match.

On Wednesday, the Saints got off to a great start, earning the first five points of the match. The Yellowjackets (11-15, 5-1 UMAC) rallied to tie the set at 12-12, but CSS answered with another 5-0 run. A Jessica Remer (Grand Forks, N.D./Sacred Heart HS) kill gave the Saints the 25-19 opening set win. Remer and Haley Rohwer (Norwood Young America, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) each had four kills in the set.

Superior scored the first two points of the second set and would not trail, despite the Saints within close proximity much of the set. A pair of kills ended the set 25-21 in favor of UWS to even the match.

The 'jackets again scored the first point of the third set, but the Saints responded with four consecutive points. CSS proceeded to not trail the rest of the way as Rohwer had kills in three of the final four CSS points to take the set 25-17. Rohwer had six kills in the set.

After the teams traded the first four points of the fourth set, the Saints went on a 6-1 run to open it up. However, UWS came back with a 7-1 run to tie it at 11-11. With the score at 20-18 CSS, the Saints would take the final five points, all by kills, with the final three by senior Brooke Schermann (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) to give St. Scholastica the match 25-18.

Top Performers
Schermann led the Saints with 19 kills, 15 of which came in the second and fourth sets. Remer finished with 16 kills and Rohwer had 11 kills. Katie Brostrom (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had a season-high 32 assists and Espi Austvold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) added 23 assists. Alcia Draper (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) had a season-high 39 digs. The 39 digs are tied for the fifth-most in a four-set match in program history.

Schermann just missed her second 20-20 match of the season against UWS as she had 22 digs to go along with her 19 kills.
