Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Friday’s Goal Enough to Top Blue Devils

Notables
-Fifth straight shutout for the Saints
-Friday increases point streak to six games
First time the two teams met in Duluth since the 2006 season

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team welcomed the University of Wisconsin-Stout to Saints Field for a non-conference match up on a cold and rainy Tuesday afternoon. One goal was all it took for the Saints to secure the win 1-0.

How It Happened
The Saints came out strong early on the offensive end when in the seventh minute of the game Morgan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's HS) would weave in and out, give a fake and have an easy goal for the Saints. This would put St. Scholastica up 1-0 early in the half. Shortly after the goal Mara Roberts (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS) had a great opportunity for a goal but would be unsuccessful with a saving being made by the Blue Devil's goalkeeper. No team would hold a zone for longer than a few minutes with very few scoring opportunities coming at the hands of either team for the remainder of the half.

The second half would follow with defense being the dominant key. Stout (3-10-0) had the better of possession time in the second half looking for the equalizer, but would only put two shots on target, both of which were stopped by Alexa Gothard (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Lake Superior College)). Friday had all four CSS shots on goal in the second half, but none found the net. However, her first half goal was enough in the 1-0 victory.

Top Performers
Offensively the Saints were led by Friday with her one goal on the afternoon. Friday also had six of the team's seven shots on goal on the day. Gothard would hold down the goalkeeping duties with another shutout only needing to make three saves on the day for the win.
