csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Superior 86-52 in a bridge battle on Thursday evening.
How it Happened
After the Saints opened the scoring with a free throw and a jumper, the 'Jackets (6-15, 4-8 UMAC) responded with five points of their own to tie the game. But CSS responded with a
Zach Sjoblad (Pequot Lakes, Minn./Pequot Lakes HS) layup and would lead for the rest of the game.
Midway through the half, the Saints had increased their lead to 22-11. They then went on a 26-13 run to head into halftime with a 24-point lead.
CSS started the second half where it left off, quickly extending their lead to 30 points after five minutes of action. With just under four minutes left in the game, the Saints had earned a 42-point lead, their highest of the game, but UWS was able to go on an 8-0 run to make the final 86-52.
Top Performers for the Saints
Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) led the Saints in scoring with 21 points, he now just needs eight more to climb into fourth place on the all-time scoring list. Newman also had five assists, making him just one shy of 300 career assists.
Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) and
Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) also reached double figures, each putting up 15 points. Fischer was 5-for-5 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free throw line.
Jarod Wilken (Annandale, Minn./Annandale HS) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Mac Reykdal led UWS in scoring with 15 points. Ronny Galvan led in rebounds with five and steals with three.
