ANGOLA, Ind. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team wrapped up its two-game series against Trine University (Ind.) with a 4-1 win on Saturday.
The Scoring
In the first period, the Saints put 13 shots on goal compared to the Thunder's one and the result could be seen on the scoreboard. Their first goal came with 4:35 left in the period when
Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) scored an even-strength goal. Two minutes later, with 2:42 left in the period,
Taylor Murray (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) scored a power-play goal for the Saints to head into the second with a 2-0 lead.
In the second period, it was the Thunder (6-8-1, 4-5-1 NCHA) who would get more shots on goal, outshooting CSS 25-14. But
Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) was able to stop all but one of Trine's shots, and the Saints finished the period with a 2-1 lead.
In the third period, shots on goal were more evenly matched, with CSS recording 14 and Trine recording 11. But it was only the Saints who were able to find the back of the net. Their first goal came from
Sam Gorecki (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic (Chicago Fury)) with 5:37 left in the game, and the second came from
Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) 55 seconds later, to finish the game 4-1 in favor of CSS.
Top Performers for CSS
Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) and
Amber Tilander (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) led the Saints in assists with two each and Klaas recorded a goal and an assist.
Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) stopped 36 of the 37 shots she faced in net to earn another win for the Saints.
Top Performers for the Opponent
Ava Russano scored the lone goal for the Thunder.
Molly Scarborough saved 37 of the 41 shots.
