csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team began its pair of games at Trine University (Ind.) with a 2-0 win on Friday evening.
The Scoring
In the first period, both teams would have a power play opportunity, but neither were able to capitalize on the advantage.
In the second period, neither team went on the power play, but CSS was able to get on the board. One minute and 36 seconds into the period,
Taylor Murray (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) set up
Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) to open the scoring and make it 1-0 to CSS. The Saints would put a total of eight shots on goal in the period, but were only rewarded with one goal.
Shots on goal in the third period were evenly matched, with CSS recording eight and Trine (6-7-1, 4-4-1 NCHA) recording seven, but only the Saints were able to find the back of the net. With 1:49 left in the game,
Mariah Haedrich (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) was assisted by
Courtney Bloemke (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato West HS) to finish the game at 2-0 in favor of CSS.
