MORRIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team split its fourth and final Upper Midwest Atlantic Conference (UMAC) triangular on Wednesday in Morris.

UMM 3, CSS 0
The Saints began the triangular with the University of Minnesota, Morris (11-8, 6-2 UMAC), who is currently ranked third in the UMAC.  The Cougars were able to rely on their hitters to outrun the Saints 44-21 kills and take all three sets.

The Saints came out strong in set one collecting a 4-1 lead over the Cougars.  Though, after much back-and-forth play, the Cougars made their run led by four kills late in the set to overcome the Saints 25-19.

Set two continued the back-and-forth play until the Saints were able to capitalize on Morris errors that set them on a 5-0 run to bring St. Scholastica ahead 9-3.  The Cougars then answered with a 16-3 run of their own, sparked by five kills from the team to allow them to take the lead 19-12.  The Saints would not succumb easily to the lead, though.  A kill from Madissen Burns (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) brought the team within three, making the score 19-15 before Morris was able to go on a 6-3 run to seal the win with an end score of 25-18.

Minnesota Morris used its momentum to lead the whole third set, but the Saints fought until the end to keep the set close.  The Cougars offense paved the way to a third set ending 25-19.

Brooke Schermann and Emily Bounds led the Saints with seven kills each.  Kelsi Rippberger tallied 10 assists while Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) totaled 10 digs.

CSS 3, NCU 0
The Saints' offense rallied back to sweep North Central University (Minn.) to finish out the night.

Jumping out to a 3-0 lead early, St. Scholastica would keep its lead through the entirety of the first set, but the Rams (4-13, 1-7 UMAC) never trailed far behind.  Swapping nearly every other point throughout the duration of the game, the Saints waited until the end to pull ahead with a two 4-0 runs.  The first run was led by kills from Morgan Lohmiller (Pequot Lakes, Minn./Pequot Lakes HS) and Bounds to bring the Saints up 20-15.  The Rams answered with back-to-back points before the Saints made their second run based on mis-played balls to win the set 25-18.

Set number two started with another St. Scholastica run of 7-2 with kills from Schermann and Bounds then was followed by a late 8-0 run to grant the Saints another victory with a final score of 25-11.

The final set looked promising for North Central, who scored first and maintained the lead through the first half of the game at 13-8.  However, the Saints made their way back with an 8-1 run to take the lead and eventually win the set 25-19.

Bounds and Schermann led the Saints again with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.  Bounds also led in aces with four.  Rippberger racked up 17 assists and eight digs.  Thompson also added 12 digs to the mix.
