DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team played Luther College (Iowa) for 110 minutes, but no goals were produced as the game ended in a scoreless draw Sunday at Saints Field.
The Action
Much of the contest was played in the middle third of the field. The first shot on goal was by
Becca Rancour (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) in the 31
st minute. That would be the lone shot on goal in the first 45 minutes of play.
Both teams would have chances in the second half. The Norse had seven shots on goal, as well as, some near misses. The Saints had runouts twice by
Morgan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's HS) who got behind the defense, but was second was denied by the keeper both times.
Rancour had a chance in the first overtime after a great ball played in by
Janelle Rouillard (Dayton, Minn./Rogers HS), but Luther goalkeeper Kennedy Bergen was there again to make the stop. In the second overtime,
Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) had to make a diving save on a Luther free kick attempt and the rebound was put in the net by the Norse, but a foul was called on Luther prior to the goal.
The game would eventually end in a 0-0 tie.
Notable Performances
Rudolph made eight saves for the Saints, while Bergen had three saves for the Norse. Rancour had two shots on goal.
All-Tournament
Hannah Zeis (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS), Rudolph and
Mara Roberts (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS) were named to the All-Tournament team for the Saints.
Up Next
The Saints (0-1-1) will be at Augsburg University Wednesday night for a non-conference matchup with the Auggies. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
