ST. PAUL (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team and the University of Northwestern (Minn.) were scoreless through 86 minutes until
Janelle Rouillard (Dayton, Minn./Rogers HS) found the net with 3:25 remaining in regulation to give the Saints the 1-0 victory Tuesday night.
How it Happened
In a rematch of last year's Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament championship, both goalkeepers had to make a pair of saves early to keep the contest scoreless. The Saints then put the pressure on the Eagles (2-4-2, 2-1-0 UMAC) in the final 15 minutes of first half with
Morgan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's HS) first being denied by a defender on an open net and then by the crossbar.
CSS kept the pressure on early in the second half with a pair of shots on goal in the first five minutes. The Saints finally broke through in the 87
th minute when Rouillard put away a cross from
Rachel Dixon (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. That would be the lone goal giving the Saints the 1-0 victory.
Goalkeeping
Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) made five saves to earn the shutout for the Saints. Samantha Colombo had 10 saves in the loss for the Eagles.
