DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's soccer team scored five goals to win 5-0 against conference rival University of Wisconsin-Superior Saturday afternoon at Saints Field. The Saints have allowed just one goal all-time against the Yellowjackets in the nine previous CSS home games in the series.
How it Happened
Six minutes into the first half,
Kaiya Quam (Oakdale, Minn./Mounds View HS) passed to
Rachel Dixon (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) for Dixon's first goal of the season, putting the Saints on the board at 1-0.
Quam would quickly get the assist again a few minutes later after the UWS goalkeeper saved Quam's shot on goal. But,
Janelle Rouillard (Dayton, Minn./Rogers HS) took the rebound, scoring her second goal of the season. The Saints would sustain their 2-0 lead going into the second half.
25 minutes into the second half and 70 minutes into the game, Dixon passed to
Morgan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's HS) for a shot that went past the Superior goalkeeper and into the bottom right-hand corner of the goal. Friday's fifth goal of the season strengthened CSS' lead to 3-0.
With six minutes left in the game, Rouillard shot on goal, which was saved by the UWS goalkeeper. Dixon quickly took advantage of this save, and was able to score her second goal and the second rebound goal of the game to extend the lead to 4-0.
After play resumed, a foul was quickly called on the Yellowjackets, and St. Scholastica's Friday was given the chance to take a penalty-kick goal. She scored to make the final score 5-0.
Notable Performances
Dixon recorded five, which brings her career-total points up to 51. Also Friday, scored two goals, pushing her total points over the past two games to 12.
CSS goalkeeper
Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) played all 90 minutes, and did not face a single shot. Madison Gutekunst, the UWS goalkeeper faced 16 shots on goal, and saved 11.
