DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team dropped its season opener to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Saturday at Saints Field thanks to a Titans goal in the 15th minute.

The Action
After a pair of saves by Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) in the first 12 minutes of the game, the Titans (1-0-1) broke through when Emily Burg struck the ball from outside the box over the head of the CSS goalkeeper and just under the bar for a goal to make it 1-0 in the 15th minute.

The first shot on goal by the Saints came in the 30th minute off the leg of Mara Roberts (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS). Lorena Lane (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) had another shot on goal in the final 10 minutes of the first half, but the Titans led 1-0 after 45 minutes.

Oshkosh had the advantage in shots 10-2 in the first half, including 7-2 on goal. However, St. Scholastica had more corner kicks than the Titans at 4-2.

The Saints came out determined in the second half as Morgan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's HS) put a shot on goal in the first two minutes of play. CSS kept the pressure and ultimately was awarded a penalty kick in the 64th minute. However, the attempt by Hannah Zeis (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) hit the crossbar and the Titans held the 1-0 lead.

CSS could not muster a shot in the final 15 minutes of play as it fell to the Titans 1-0.

Notable Performances
Rudolph had nine saves in the defeat. Erin Toomey made four saves to earn the shutout for the Titans. Roberts recorded two of St. Scholastica's four shots on goal.
