CLAREMONT, Calif. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team dropped both matches on Friday to open its season at the Pacific Coast Classic.
Chapman 3, CSS 0
Brooke Schermann (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) had seven kills to lead the Saints in a three-set loss to the Panthers.
The Saints led only three times in the match as Chapman won by set scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-16.
Morgan Lohmiller (Pequot Lakes, Minn./Pequot Lakes HS) added six kills and
Emily Bounds (Hill City, Minn./Hill City HS) had five kills and 11 digs.
Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) matched Bounds with 11 digs of her own.
Espi Austvold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) had 18 assists.
Jessi Lumsden and Lauren Friend each had 11 kills for the Panthers.
Pamona-Pitzer 3, CSS 0
The second match of the day was much tighter, but the Sagehens pulled out three close sets 26-24, 25-20 and 25-20.
CSS was up 23-21 in set one and then had set point at 24-23, but the Sagehens had back-to-back kills and then an error gave them the first set 26-24.
The Saints would be within striking distance in the next two sets, but never led as Pomona-Pitzer ended the match in three.
Schermann again led the Saints with nine kills. Bounds had eight kills. Thompson recorded a team-high 17 digs and Austvold had 14 assists.
Julia Zwaal had 15 kills to lead the Sagehens.
