DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team closed out the regular season in style with an 8-1 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Sunday to clinch its third consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Regular Season title.
Doubles
The Saints swept all three doubles matches.
Elise Hauer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and
Alexia Brascugli (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) won at the No. 1 spot 8-4.
Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and
Elizabeth Fink (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century HS) won 8-1 at the No. 2 spot. That was the same winning result for
Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn./Armstrong HS) and
Emma Bartels (Roseville, Minn./Mounds View HS (Minn.-Duluth)) at the No. 3 position.
Singles
In singles, Hauer cruised at the No. 1 spot by scores of 6-1, 6-1. Coryell at No. 3 and Brascugli at No. 5 both blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0.
Fink dropped only one game at No. 4, winning 6-1, 6-0. The final winner on the day was
Taylor Hays (Altoona, Wis./Altoona HS) at the No. 6 position 6-2, 6-2.
Up Next
The Saints (12-6, 7-0 UMAC) move on to the UMAC Tournament, which for the first time will be for an automatic qualification into the NCAA Division III Tournament. With that said, the higher-seeded team hosts each round of the tournament. So, St. Scholastica will host the No. 4 seed Martin Luther College in the UMAC Semifinals tomorrow at 5 p.m. over at Hermantown High School.
