-Coryell wins her 100th career match with doubles victory
HERMANTOWN, Minn. (
csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's tennis team beat out Martin Luther College 7-2 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament semifinals Monday afternoon at Hermantown High School.
Doubles
The Saints were victorious in all three doubles matches. The No. 1 team,
Elise Hauer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and
Alexia Brascugli (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS), won by an 8-4 margin.
Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and
Elizabeth Fink (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century HS), the No. 2 team, was victorious with a final score of 8-2. And the No. 3 team,
Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn./Armstrong HS) and
Emma Bartels (Roseville, Minn./Mounds View HS (Minn.-Duluth)) defeated their opponents 8-1. With the win, Coryell earned her 100th career victory as a Saint, becoming the sixth player in program history to reach that mark.
Singles
CSS won four out of the six singles matches, including one sweep. No. 2
Daniela Rojas (Monterrey, Mexico/Universidad Tecmilenio) was victorious her first set 6-2, lost the tiebreaker in her second set 7-6 (7-5), but won her third set super-breaker 10-8. No. 3 Coryell swept 6-0, 6-0.
Brascugli, No. 5, won her tiebreaker point in her first set and swept her second set for a final score of 7-6 (7-2), 6-0. And to round out the Saints, No. 6
Taylor Hays (Altoona, Wis./Altoona HS) was close to sweeping, winning 6-1, 6-0.

The Saints (13-6) move on to face the University of Northwestern (Minn.) for the UMAC Tournament championship on Friday in Duluth. Northwestern defeated the University of Wisconsin-Superior tonight 8-1 in the other semifinal. The match will take place at 5 p.m. at Longview Tennis Club.
