csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's tennis team edged the University of Northwestern (Minn.) 5-4 Friday night at Johnson Courts. Northwestern had won three of the last four matches over the Saints at Johnson Courts.
Doubles
The Saints won just one of three doubles matches. The No. 3 team of the
Daniela Rojas (Monterrey, Mexico/Universidad Tecmilenio) and
Emma Bartels (Roseville, Minn./Mounds View HS (Minn.-Duluth)) won 9-7.
Singles
With the Eagles having the edge heading into singles play, CSS needed to win four of the six remaining matches. No. 1
Elise Hauer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) battled in the first set and won it 7-5, and then was victorious her second set 6-1 to take the match. At No. 3
Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn./Armstrong HS) defeated her Eagle opponent by a 6-1, 6-2 margin.
Alexia Brascugli (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS), the No. 5 seed, prevailed 6-3, 6-4. And in the No. 6 spot,
Taylor Hays (Altoona, Wis./Altoona HS) won by a final score of 6-2, 6-4 to clinch the dual victory for the Saints. It marked the second time this season, the Saints won a dual when dropping at least two of the three doubles matches.

The Saints (11-6, 6-0 UMAC) have their final regular season match against University of Wisconsin-Superior Sunday. Match time is scheduled for noon at the MacArthur School Tennis Courts in Duluth.
