SUPERIOR, Wis. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica baseball team earned two Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) wins on Wednesday when they took on the University of Wisconsin-Superior in a doubleheader, winning game one 23-8 and game two 16-11.

Game 1: CSS-23, UWS-8 (F/7)
The Saints opened up play with 17 runs in the first inning alone, thanks to a large number of pitching and fielding errors by the 'jackets, along with some hot bats from the Saints. Three of the first four batters were hit by a pitch and CSS drew eight walks in the inning. The NCAA Division III record for walks in an inning is 10, but eight are the most in an inning since 2002. The 17 runs scored in the inning are not a program record. CSS tied the NCAA Division III record by plating 24 runs against North Central University (Minn.) in 2013.

The Yellowjackets (1-15, 0-2 UMAC) allowed another run by the Saints in the top of the second, then UWS scored three back to make the score 18-3. UWS worked to close the gap, outscoring the Saints 5-2 in the next four innings, but the Saints closed out the game with three runs in the seventh, giving the game its final score of 23-8.

Aaron Weber (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Pierz HS) was the only player for the Saints to collect a home run. Riley Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS) and Brad Fossum (Sturgeon Lake, Minn./Moose Lake HS (Concordia-St. Paul)) both put up three RBIs for CSS. Drew Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) and Tim Munn (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) each scored four times.

Dan Hansen (Brooklyn Center, Minn./Park Center HS) got the win from the mound for CSS, pitching four innings and earning five strikeouts. Matt Tautges (Fort Ripley, Minn./Pierz HS) faced nine batters in two innings, and Seth Anderson (Robbinsdale, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) saw an inning of play and faced four batters.

Game 2: CSS-16, UWS-11
The second game of the doubleheader fell in the Saints' favor as well, but did not see nearly as many runs cross the plate. UWS scored first in the bottom of the first inning on a home run. The Saints' Weber answered with a home run of his own, his second of the day, which also pushed Steven Neutzling (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral) to score, giving the Saints a 2-1 lead.

Every inning saw scoring, with the exception of the eighth. UWS had a big fifth inning with four runs, all scored on a grand slam to put the score in it favor at 6-5. UWS led after the fifth and six innings and the score would be tied at 10-10 heading into the ninth.

The Saints took control with six runs scoring on four hits and a UWS error. The Yellowjackets answered with one run in the bottom of the ninth, but that's all they would muster up to give the game its final score of 16-11.

Bernsdorf had another three-RBI game. Neutzling and Joey Zwak (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) pulled in three as well.

Jake Turner (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) earned three strikeouts in his five full innings. Joe Gonrowski (Elk River, Minn./Elk River HS) was on the mound for two outs, striking out both batters, and Isaac Rocha (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) saw three innings and and struck out four to ultimately get the win.
