Six Women Skiers Place in Top 20 in MTU Classic Saturday

HOUGHTON, Mich. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's nordic ski team finished a solid second on Saturday in the 5km classic race of the Michigan Tech Qualifier with its top three skiers finishing in the top 11 and six in the top 17.
 
Top Performances
Senior Kelsey Dickinson (Winthrop, Wash./Liberty Bell HS) was the top non-Northern Michigan University finisher, coming across the line fifth in a time of 18:14. It was her second straight top-five finish.
 
Freshman Samantha Benzing (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS) registered her first collegiate top-10 finish, coming in 10th with a time of 18:49. Two seconds behind Benzing was junior Greta Jenkins (Palmer, Alaska/Colony HS) in 11th to complete the St. Scholastica scoring.
 
Just missing scoring for the second straight race was Cecelia Boyle (Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) in a season-best 12th, two seconds behind Jenkins. Freshman Hanna Dahlberg (Ulricehamn, Sweden/Tingsholms School) was 16th and Megan Schiferl (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) was 17th. Nicole Gilman (Manitowish Waters, Wis./Lakeland Union HS) was 22nd.
 
Team Finishes
Northern Michigan had the top four collegiate finishers to win the event. Vivian Hett led the way with a winning time of 17:04. The Saints were second followed by Michigan Tech and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
