Tennis Teams Back in Action on Saturday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's and women's tennis teams return to the courts on Saturday when they face the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in Rochester.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints last played on February 10, which resulted in a 9-0 loss against Macalester College.
-Freshman Elliot Schneider (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) has the lone victory for CSS on the year and that took place at No. 2 singles against Concordia College-Moorhead.
-CSS is looking to avoid its first 0-3 start since 2011.
 
What You Need to Know about UW-La Crosse:
-The Eagles enter the weekend with a 4-2 overall record.
-La Crosse has won all four of its matches by 9-0 sweeps and enters on a three-match win streak.
-UWL is 26-10 in singles and 13-5 in doubles in dual play thus far.
-Kyle Wogahn is 3-1 at the No. 1 singles spot and has teamed with Matt Lindsay to go 5-1 at No. 1 doubles.
 
Series Record: UWL leads 7-1 (Last Meeting: 5-4 CSS – 3/26/2017)
 
Series History: The Saints defeated the Eagles for the first time in program history last season … This will only be the second February meeting between the two programs as seven of the previous eight have taken place in March.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints last played on February 10, which resulted in a 6-3 loss to Macalester College.
-Senior Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn./Armstrong HS) and sophomore Elizabeth Fink (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century HS) earned wins in singles and Elise Hauer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Alexia Brascugli (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) picked up victories at No. 2 doubles.
-Coryell enters Saturday with 15 straight singles wins.
-Coryell has had a streak of 19 consecutive singles wins in her career and that took place at the end of the 2016 season to the start of the 2017.
-CSS has been strong in middle of its singles lineup with a 10-2 record between the No. 3, 4 and 5 spots.
 
What You Need to Know about UW-La Crosse:
-This will be the Eagles' first match of the spring season.
-The Eagles went 7-2 during the fall with a pair of 5-4 losses to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
-La Crosse did finish second in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Individual Championships in October.
-Bridgett Bellissimo won the No. 1 singles flight at the WIAC Championships in October.
-Bellissimo is ranked 40th in NCAA Division III in singles.
- In doubles, Bellissimo and partner Sadie Spahn are ranked 22nd in the nation.
-The pair went 9-0 in dual play in the fall.

Series History: The Eagles have won seven straight in the series after the Saints took the first two matches.
 
Looking Ahead: Both teams have their final matches before spring break when they face Luther College (Iowa) next Saturday at the Lifetime Fitness in White Bear Lake.
