csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team out-scored Crown College 56-26 in the second half to rally past the Storm 90-67 in Saturday's regular season finale.
All About the Second Half
The Saints trailed 41-34 at the half as Crown (13-12, 9-7 UMAC) was shooting 48 percent from the floor, while the Saints were only 36 percent. The Storm also out-scored the Saints 22-14 in the paint and 10-2 in second chance points in the first 20 minutes of play.
CSS opened the second half on a 9-1 run with
Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) scoring the first five points. Moments later, the Saints went on an 8-0 run with
Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) sparking the run with five points as St. Scholastica led 56-46 with over 11 minutes to play.
The margin remained around 10 until the Saints went on a 15-2 scoring spurt with under nine minutes remaining to extend the lead to 21 with four minutes to go. CSS would go on to win 90-67 for their eighth consecutive road victory.
The Saints shot 59 percent from the floor in the second half and out-scored Crown 20-4 in the paint and 16-0 in points off turnovers. The Storm were held to only five second half field goals.
Top Performances for CSS
Nate Weets (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) led the Saints with a career-high 24 points off the bench. 17 of those 24 points came in the second half. Newman just missed a double-double with 20 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Sam Thompson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) had 12 points and Anderson added 11 points.
Jarod Wilken (Annandale, Minn./Annandale HS) had four steals, four assists and eight rebounds.
Top Performances for the Opponent
Christian Moore led the Storm with 18 points. Timothy Wendel added 15 points and Trey Peace had 13 points.
