LAKE FOREST, Ill. (
csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's hockey team had a nine-game Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) win streak come to an end with a 5-0 loss at Lake Forest College (Ill.) on Friday.
First Period
St. Scholastica was able to hold the Foresters until there was eight minutes left in the period. A penalty was called on the Saints for tripping, giving LFC a power play opportunity. A few seconds later, the Foresters scored their first goal. Lake Forest kept the momentum going and scored a minute later, extending its lead to 2-0.
The 2-0 score carried into the first intermission. The Foresters out-shot the Saints 18-2, with St. Scholastica's only shots on goal coming from
Amanda Broman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS) and
Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS).
Second Period
Lake Forest extended its lead to 3-0 seven minutes into the period.
Nine minutes in, the second penalty of the game was called on St. Scholastica for checking. The Saints were able to hold off the Foresters until seven seconds remained on the power play. LFC was then able to sneak past the Saints defense to score, bringing the score to 4-0 to carry over into the third period.
CSS had three power plays this period, but were unable to make anything of those opportunities.
Third Period
Lake Forest scored their fifth and final goal with four minutes left in the game. The final buzzer rang and the score would be 5-0 in favor of Lake Forest.

St. Scholastica's
Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) stopped 38 out of 43 shots she faced. LFC's Jacque Rogers stopped all 12 shots she faced

The Saints (15-5-4, 8-1-2 NCHA) play the second game in the series against Lake Forest (16-8-0, 14-3-0 NCHA) tomorrow at 2 p.m. to close the regular season. If the Saints can gain a split they will be the No. 2 seed for the NCHA Slaats Cup playoffs, otherwise they will be the No. 3 seed.
