Women’s Skiing Third Sunday; Second Overall at CCSAs

RESULTS

RHINELANDER, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's nordic ski team fell to third during Sunday's 15km freestyle race, but when combined with Saturday's result finished runner-up at the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) Championships at the CAVOC Trails.
 
Top Performances
A trio of Saints finished 10th thru 12th to lead the team. Greta Jenkins (Palmer, Alaska/Colony HS) led for the second straight day with another top-10 finish with a time of 48:00. Hanna Dahlberg (Ulricehamn, Sweden/Tingsholms School) was in 11th with a time of 48:06. The final CSS scorer was Samantha Benzing (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS) in 12th with a time of 48:32.
 
Megan Schiferl (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) was 14th to complete the top-20 finishers for the Saints.
 
Sunday's Scores
Northern Michigan University had the top six finishers to sweep first place for the second straight day with 111 points. Nicole Schneider took the crown on Sunday with a winning time of 44:59. Michigan Tech University overtook the Saints today to finish second with 77 points. The Saints were third with 75 points. The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay was fourth with 55 points.
 
Championship Results
Northern Michigan dominated the weekend with a perfect score of 222 points to win the CCSA title. St. Scholastica finished with 150 points edging Michigan Tech by one point for second. UW-Green Bay was fourth with 114 points. St. Cloud State was fifth with 105 points and St. Olaf College sixth with 102 points.
 
That is the best conference finish for the Saints since 2015 when they captured the CCSA title. CSS last finished second in 2014.

The Saints have one more weekend of qualifying races remaining next week at the NCAA Central Region Championships at the Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming, Michigan.
